SOS 2009
Over 1,100 dealers, manufacturers, suppliers and industry professionals came together last month to discuss the key issues and new office products for 2010 at Spicers 10th anniversary SOS show.
The show, held at the NEC in Birmingham on 8th and 9th December, aimed to help attendees grow their business, to ensure they could start 2010 with renewed enthusiasm. Former champion athlete and television presenter, Kriss Akabusi and Dragon’s Den’s Duncan Bannatyne, headlined the Business Experience seminars, along with other industry experts who delivered seminars providing dealers with top tips on how to boost sales and drive business in the New Year.
The first day of SOS culminated in a formal gala dinner with entertainment from the Comedy Store Players.
Phil Holmes from Officetech Supplies, Harrogate, was announced as the lucky winner of a brand new Citroen C1+ in the prize draw, which was delivered in person by Alan Ball, Managing Director for Spicers UK.
One to watch
Following strong competition, Energizer’s new ‘Solar Flip’ battery was awarded ‘Best of SOS’. The product introduces a brand new rechargeable technology, which ensures that batteries can be charged on the move by direct sunlight.
The environment and office efficiency was a key theme in other products on display which included:
- Scotch® Magic™ 900: Invisible tape made from a natural fibre resource from FSC certified sources with reduced packaging and tape core made from 100% recycled cardboard
- Papermate Biodegradable Ball Pens: Super smooth office pens made from an exclusive Mirel biodegradable material
- Colop Green Line Metal Custom Stamps: A custom stamp built made with recycled plastics, a renewably sourced wooden handle, unbleached and 100% recycled cardboard packaging
- Canon PIXMA MX860 inkjet multifunctional printer: Ideal for the home and small office, the PIXMA MX860 is a premium Home and Office All-In-One with fax, 35-sheet duplex ADF for batch processing and Wi-Fi & Ethernet connectivity.
Success in Partnership
Further support for Synergy partners was also announced during SOS, at the annual Synergy conference. In 2010 the programme will build on the updates made in 2009 and continue to support dealers through further developments including the launch of an online training academy, a series of roadshows during March 2010, to provide face-to-face support for dealers, and the first customisable end-user magazine, The Office Magazine.
As well as providing sales and consultancy support, Spicers will also work with its Synergy partners to develop new product areas, create targeted offers and create lasting relationships with their customers. The Business Development Fund, which is available for dealers who meet the criteria, allows Synergy dealers to invest in the development of their business.
Jane Rowe, Marketing & Communications Director of Spicers UK says, “Synergy is really developing, with a 14% increase in members this year and the changes to the programme are starting to add great value to the proposition. The recent SOS has also been incredibly successful with numbers up again on 2008 and a real buzz at the show. Last year was challenging for dealers because of the economic climate, and we want to provide them with the best support to drive their businesses in 2010. SOS gives representatives from all areas of the industry the opportunity to come together and prepare for the year ahead, and it has been great to receive all the positive feedback from dealers and suppliers alike.”
